Abstract
The Russian-Japanese war of 1904—1905 was unsuccessful for Russia, which caused difficulties in embedding images of war in cultural memory. The research is carried out in line with the history of memory, using the concepts of “cultural memory” and “commemoration”. The victory in the Soviet-Japanese war in 1945 “rehabilitated” the Russian-Japanese campaign of the beginning of the 20th century, after which work began on images of the war in historiography, literature, cinema, and theater. The article analyzes the representation of images of war in the film “Cruiser «Varyag»” (1947) and the play “Port Arthur” (1953).
