Abstract

The article shows that cinema is one of the components of mass culture, which has not only an entertaining function, but also broadcasts mythological images and has its modern developed mythology. Popular culture uses traditional myths, adding its own interpretation to them. Some images may be easily recognizable, and although they may have several semantic layers, these images are perceived at the level of the collective unconscious. The author considers the elements of myth, transmitted in films, as a mythologeme. The materials of the article can be useful in the course on the History of Art, Cinema, and Cultural Studies.
