Abstract

The Chicago Joint Chapter of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S), the Industry Initiatives Committee of AP-S, and Motorola Mobility organized a full-day workshop entitled “Advanced Antennas for Satellites, Air craft, and Remote Sensing Applications” on Saturday, Sep tember 13, 2014. The workshop was a great success, with about 80 attendees. It took place at Motorola Mobility, located within the Merchandise Mart building in downtown Chicago.

Highlights

  • The Chicago Joint Chapter of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S), the Industry Initiatives Committee of AP-S, and Motorola Mobility organized a full day workshop entitled “Advanced Antennas for Satellites, Aircraft and Remote Sensing Applications” on Saturday Sept. 13, 2014

  • The AFRL Mobile Diagnostic Laboratory, originally developed by Dr Kent and his collaborators to measure the radar cross section of military aircrafts, was the only available system to perform a series of critical measurements that eventually determined that it was safe to use a radar beam to monitor the release of debris during the ascent of the Space Shuttle

  • The second part of his presentation was about antenna design and placement using the Characteristic Mode Analysis, a method based on some interesting physical intuition, Everyone was brought back to outer space with the talk of Dr Sudhakar Rao, an AP-S Distinguished Lecturer, entitled “Advanced Antenna Systems for Satellite Communication Payloads.”
