Abstract

This is in reference to the letter to the editor entitled ‘Mucormycosis and Black fungus: Breaking the myth’ in response to the published editorial “Mucormycosis – An opportunistic infection in the aged immunocompromised individual: A reason for concern in COVID-19.” First of all, the editorial was written clearly to reach out to a large audience of non-specialists and especially mucormycosis cases associated with COVID-19 in India. The work was drafted considering the current pandemic, where mucormycosis surfaced as a post-COVID-19 complication and often referred to as the so-called black fungus not only by the media but also by many peer-reviewed journals [1–10].
