Abstract
Objective To investigate the method of repair for partial loss of the distal finger nail bed.Methods A total of 30 cases with partial loss of the distal finger nail bed were treated with volar advancement flap,unilateral or bilateral V-Y advancement flap along with modified nail augmentation based on the level of injury and the remaining portion of the nail. Results All flaps survived.One year postoperative follow-up (range,6 to 24 months) revealed that the texture,color and sensation of the fingertips were good.The appearance of the nails was satisfactory. Conclusion Local advancement flap combined with modified nail augmentation is an ideal method for cosmetic repair of partial loss of distal finger nail bed.It restores the length and appearance of the distal finger nail.
