Abstract

Objective To introduce bilaterally pedicled V-Y advancement flap for fingertip reconstruction and evaluate the long-term outcomes. Methods Bilaterally pedicled V-Y advancement flap was performed in 39 patients(39 digits)who had fingertip defects of no more than 1.2 cm2 in size.Postoperatively the appearance of the pulp,gripping,joint movement,sweating and sensation were evaluated.Results All the flaps survived.The finger contour,perspiring,prehension and range of motion,which were evaluated at one year postoperative follow-up,were satisfactory.Pain sensation was recovered in all 39 patients.Impaired touch sensation was noted in 7.7%of the cases,46.1%of the Cases achieyed normal two-point discrimination,and 92.3%achieyed good stcrcognosis. Conclusion The bilaterally pedicled V-Y advancement flap is a simple and practical procedure for fingertip reconstruction,which can achieve good cosmetic and functional results.
