Abstract

During the last period of the 19th century spanish polyhedral reality was affected by numerous crisis and was obsolete compared to other European countries. Education was then seen as a key element for the country’s renovation, although it was in need of a careful renovation process as well. In this work we present that pedagogical renewal process in the context of Castilla-La Mancha between the end of the 19th century and the first third of the 20thcentury. Throughout that period projects such as the ILE (InstitucionLibre de Ensenanza) or the JAE (Junta para la Ampliacion de Estudios e InvestigacionesCientificas) left a strong imprint on the region’s teachers and on the education system.
