Abstract

Ultrasonic haptic feedback, as a kind of mid-air haptic feedback, can get rid of the constraints of traditional devices and provide users with a natural and intuitive interaction. Therefore, its application in the research of image-based haptic feedback has important significance and value. In this paper, we reproduce visual roughness using ultrasound phased array. First, we use the image feature extraction algorithm to determine the roughness of the image. Afterward, the duty cycle of the driving signal of the ultrasound transducer is mapped to the image roughness to generate vibration haptic feedback. Lastly, psychophysical experiments demonstrate that the haptic feedback of ultrasound phased array presented in this paper reproduces visual roughness accurately.
