Abstract

Pamphlets and Sade' s novels share the assumption that power promotes - the domination of evil. However, Sade balances his use of pamphleteer rhetoric in Isabelle de Bavière with his poetics and logic, thus revealing the ambivalent fascination of pamphleteers for their subject of indignation while making of Isabelle another Juliette.
