Abstract

A 26-year-old woman was examined for lumbar pain and discomfort in the right lower abdominal region. Routine blood and urine examinations showed microscopic hematuria and proteinuria, low values of creatinine clearance, and creatinine in the urine. Findings of renal and pelvic ultrasonography were normal. She underwent Tc-99m DTPA renal dynamic scintigraphy in the supine position with evaluation of glomerular filtration rates (GFR). Results of all morphologic and functional studies were normal. After micturition, the right kidney appeared ptotic. Renal scintigraphy with Tc-99m DTPA was repeated 1 month later in the upright position. There was ptosis of the right kidney during the entire dynamic study. The total GFR was normal, but the GFR of the right kidney was decreased. There was mobility and ptosis of the right kidney, which was confirmed by renal urography.
