Abstract

Aims and objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease associated with various systemic manifestations. Among these cardiovascular diseases are very much talked about, there is very less said about renal impairment in patients with COPD. Renal comorbidity is an important comorbid condition in COPD patients. In our study we tried to find prevalence of renal function impairment in patients with COPD. Material and method: We evaluated 100 cases with COPD 1 (post bronchodilator FEV1/FVC 2 ) which correspond to severity of renal impairment. Severe renal impairment (GFR 15-29), moderate (GFR 30-59), mild (GFR 60-89), normal (GFR >90). Obtained data was analysed statistically. Results: In our study we found that 36% patient had raised creatininne levels (>1.2mg/dl) while 48% had a raised urea levels (>40mg/dl). 8% patients had severely reduced GFR, 46 % patients had moderate reduction in GFR and only 30% patients had normal GFR. Conclusion: we conclude that there is high prevalence of renal impairment in patient with COPD. And it is a neglected comorbidity in COPD patients. Its early detection and proper management can reduce morbidity and mortality. reference: 1.GOLD 2016.
