Abstract
Immunohistological studies of the kidneys obtained from 2 scleroderma patients at necropsy showed accumulations of immunoglobulins and complement in the glomeruli, small arteries and arterioles. Antinuclear factor was recovered after acid treatment of kidney tissue from one patient. The results support the hypothesis that circulating immune complexes are an important factor in the development of renal disease in scleroderma patients. Immunosuppressive therapy might be of value in such patients.
