Abstract

Removal of NaCl from saltwater solution and a recycling operation were carried out using a flow-through capacitor (FTC) with carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/activated carbon (AC) composite electrode. As a result, the content of CNTs had a great effect on the removal characteristics of composite electrodes. The removal characteristic of the composite electrode with 10% CNTs was the best of all, above 90% removal efficiency achieved, and the removal energy-consumption thereof could be reduced by about 67% compared with that of the AC electrode. The highly efficient regeneration of the composite electrode was easily achieved. Therefore it was efficient enough to remove NaCl from saltwater solution by this technique.
