Abstract

Cleanin9 contaminated clothes worn by pesticide applicators is an important work for limitin9 applicator exposure to pesticides. The effect of the fabric, deter9ent, pesticide formulation, wash-water temperature, laundry procedures, and other variables on removal of pesticide residues from fabric has been studied usin9 washin9 machines (Easley et al . 1981; Easley et al. 1982; Rim et al. 1982; Kim et al. 1986; iau9hlin et al. 1987; Lau9hlin et al . 1989; Braun et al . 1989). In China, however, most usually contaminated clothes are hand washed. Up to now l i t t l e has been known about the cleanin9 eff icacy of the hand wash method. The objectives of this research were to invest isate the cleanin9 eff icacy of the hand-wash method and to find out suitable procedures for removein9 pesticides from clothes e f fec t ive ly , usin9 fenitrothion and cypermethrin, commonly used pesticides in tea plantations in China.
