Abstract

Waste red mud obtained during the processing of bauxite ore has been used for the adsorption of acid violet at different initial dye concentrations (10–40 mg/L), agitation time, adsorbent dosages (0.05–1.15 g/50 mL) and pH (2–11). Adsorption obeyed both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Quantitative removal of dye was observed at pH 4.1. Desorption studies show that the adsorption is mainly due to ion-exchange.
