Abstract

The world is progressing at a rapid pace where everything needs to be wireless and portable. A software defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where the components traditionally implemented in the hardware are done by software on a computer. We use GNU Radio platform for this implementation of SDR. GNU Radio is a free and open source platform that provides various signal processing blocks in order to implement SDR’s. HackRF is an open source hardware that is available for the software defined radio. In the SDR paradigm, many radio system components are implemented in software and can be reconfigured on-the-fly allowing a single piece of hardware for multi-standard, multi-band and multi-functional wireless systems. Such a paradigm change has far-reaching impact on the evolution of future wireless communications and networking systems. In this paper we discuss about various experiments that have been performed using the HackRF and GNU Radio companion where we build our SDR models.
