Abstract

The results of the reduction in the prevalence of caries reflect the effectiveness of a more preventive than curative dentistry. The development of preventive techniques for dental caries disease and the improvement of restorative materials, mainly those related to adhesive techniques, have made it possible to carry out more conservative cavity preparations. This led to the emergence of new techniques for the preparation of cavity preparations and treatment of carious tissue, appearing as an additional option the chemical-mechanical removal of carious dentin, which preserves healthy dental tissue and uses techniques that are more comfortable for the patient. The aim of this work was to review the literature on the methods of chemical-mechanical removal of dental caries, their biological bases and their respective materials, with special emphasis on their antimicrobial effects and how they affect the adhesion and filtration strength of the adhesive restorations placed in the future.
