Abstract
Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, with more than 8 million deaths annually, per the World Health Organization. However, treatment of many types of cancer has improved dramatically over the past two decades and, since the mid-1990s, the cancer death rate has been decreasing steadily. Today, nearly half of all patients with cancer can expect to live for 5 or more years after their initial diagnosis.
