Abstract

Some problems in structural reliability analysis and design, especially of multi-box structures, are considered. Professor Feng's method of enumerating significant failure modes by using an optimality criterion and the method of structural optimization based on structural system reliability are developed and used to solve multi-box structure problems. Two iterative formulae are presented for optimum design based on structural system reliability. The physical concepts of these formulae are very clear and the illustrative examples show that they are very efficient, especially in medium- or large-scale structures.
