Abstract

Streptomyces olivochromogenes ferulic acid esterase released free ferulic acid from 0-[5-0-( trans-feruloyl)-α- l-arabinofuranosyl]-(1→3)-0-β-xylopyranosyl-(1→4)- d-xylopyranose (FAXX) prepared from wheat bran. The K m and V max of the reaction were 0·24 m m and 0·134 U mg −1, respectively. The enzyme released 0·25% of the covalently bound ferulic acid from sugar beet pectin both in the presence and in the absence of pectinase.
