Abstract

Aspects of the rheological behaviour of concentrated solutions and melts of linear flexible-chain polymers in transitional flow in shear and in uniaxial extension are discussed on the basis of non-linear relaxation equations for macromolecular dynamics. The occurrence of slow and superslow relaxation processes connected with large-scale macromolecular movements has been investigated. Theoretical predictions are in agreement with the experimental data. The rheological model considered describes known features and predicts new ones in the transition of these polymeric media to steady-state flow.
