Abstract

Summary The study used the Group Embedded Figures Test and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire in an attempt to replicate and extend earlier findings which showed both a covariation in scores between measures of field dependence and extraversion and an antagonistic relationship between these two constructs such that field-dependent introverts have a greater incidence of “neuroticism.” Ss were 192 male and female undergraduates. No covariation was found for overall extraversion scores for either females or males; however, significant covariation for impulsivity scores with field-dependence scores was found in the expected direction for males. The antagonistic relationship centering on the field-dependent introvert category was found in the female subsample only.
