Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα)-238 and TNFα-308 gene polymorphism with atherosclerosis cerebral infarction. Methods In 97 patients with atherosclerosis cerebral infarction ( CI group) and 141 healthy people (control group), polymorphisms of TNF α-238 G/A and TNFα-308 G/A gene in peripheral blood were detected by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RELP). Results In CI group, genotype frequencies of TNF α-238 GG, GA and AA were 88.66%, 11.34% and 0, respectively, gene frequencies of TNFα-235 G and TNFα-235 A were 94.33% and 5.67%. In control group, genotype frequencies of TNFα-238 GG, GA and AA were 95.74%, 4.26% and 0, respectively, gene frequencies of TNFα-238 G and TNFα-238 A were 97.87% and 2.13%. There were significant differences in all frequencies of TNFα-238 G/A gene between two groups (all P<0.05). In CI group, genotype frequencies of TNFα-308 GG, GA and AA were 77.32%, 8.25% and 14.43%, respectively, gene frequencies of TNFα-308 G and TNFα-308 A were 81.44% and 18.56%. In control group, genotype frequencies of TNFα-308 GG, GA and AA were 92.20%, 5.67% and 2.13%, gene frequencies of TNFα-308 G and TNFα-308 A were 95.04% and 4.96%. There were significant differences in all frequencies of TNFα-308 G/A gene between two groups (all P<0.05). Conclusion TNFα-235 G/A and TNFα-308 G/A polymorphism axe associated with relating to cerebral infarction.
