Abstract

The effect that PbZrO3 (PZ) addition to (Na1/2Bi1/2)TiO3 (NBT) has on crystal structure, domain state, ferroelectric property and cation ordering was investigated. With increasing PZ concentration, lattice distortion of NBT decreased and the phase transition behavior became similar to that of relaxor ferroelectrics. The relaxor-like behavior was maximum in a NBT–0.5PZ ceramics, whose phase transition behavior and ferroelectric hysteresis loop were those of typical relaxor ferroelectrics. These variations were discussed in terms of cation ordering and local fields. Structural analysis using transmission electron microscope (TEM) revealed that PZ addition prevented the arrangement of A-site cations, which caused random fields and non-uniform polarization in NBT–PZ solid solution.
