Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum cystatin C (Cys C) and primary hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Chose five hundred and seventy-seven patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus whose uromicroprotein were normal and glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were ≥60 ml/(min·1.73 m2). After their general information were recorded, vasoactive drugs were discontinued for 2 weeks, and blood glucose were controlled to standards by conventional therapy, then their morning fasting venous blood were collected to measure serum Cys C. Patients were divided into four groups by serum Cys C levels. Cys C in group A (261 cases) were 1.10 mg/L. Blood pressure and prevalence of hypertension in each group were compared. The relationship between serum Cys C and blood pressure were analyzed. Results Systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure both showed the trend of group D > group C > group B> group A, the differences were significant in every two groups (P<0.05). The total prevalence rate and grade of hypertension in group D were significantly higher than other groups, the differences were significant (P<0.05). The serum Cys C level was positively correlated with systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (r=0.651, 0.537; P<0.05). Conclusions With the serum Cys C increased, the blood pressure level in patients with type 2 diabetes increases, the incidence and degree of hypertension increases. Serum CysC level may be a risk factor for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with hypertension. Key words: Type 2 diabetes; Hypertension; Serum cystatin C; Correlation
