Abstract

This paper describes the relationship between a receiving antenna pattern and an aircraft position estimated using signal delays of digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB). Recently, we have proposed a method of aircraft positioning using DTTB signal delays. In the current study, we have found that the proposed method can detect moving aircraft by comparing it with automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast. The proposed method based on passive bistatic radar estimates the aircraft positions using the intersections between an antenna direction and ellipsoid curves. The coverage area depends on the scattered power caused by moving objects and a receiving antenna pattern. This paper focuses on the antenna pattern and coverage area. Initially, this paper shows the receiving antenna pattern measured in an anechoic chamber. Then, an experimental result of aircraft positioning, which was performed at the Kaneda Sazanami park, Japan, is shown. Finally, we discuss the coverage area from the relationship between the receiving antenna pattern and target positions.
