Abstract
Abstract In the first phase of this study, 386 high school junior and senior boys were administered a physical fitness test. The boys who finished in the upper 15 percent on the test were compared, by use of a battery of three personality tests, with the boys who were in the lower 15 per cent. Significant personality differences were found. In the second phase of the study, the low physical fitness group was divided into a control and an experimental group. A 9-month physical fitness program for the experimental group resulted in a significant gain in physical fitness. When compared with the control group changes during the experimental period, the experimental group personality trait changes were found to be significantly different on only one test item.
