Abstract

The discharge process in Hall thrusters is closely related to the magnetic field topography and field strength. Keeping the magnetic field topography unchanged, we study the relationship between the magnetic field strength and discharge voltage of the ATON-type Hall thrusters with the optimized conditions of smallest discharge current and highest efficiency. The experimental results show that this relationship changes for different ranges of discharge voltage. In a low discharge voltage range, the relationship between and meets a relationship; but in a high discharge voltage range, the magnetic field strength remains unchanged.
