Abstract
Objective To investigate the relaitonship between the immunohistochemical expression of Twist and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in bladder cancer. Methods The epithelial-mesenchymal transition was assessed by the expression of E-cadherin and N-cadherin. The expression of E-cad-herin and N-cadherin in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues and fresh tissue blocks from 49 patients with bladder cancer was detected by immunohistochemistry, real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blotting. Results The expression of Twist protein was detected in 14 cases (26.66% ) of bladder cancer. Twist positive rate was associated with the pathological parameters. The expression of Twist was closely associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition and infiltration and metastasis. Conclusion Twist has an effect on epithelial-mesenchymal transition in bladder cancer. Twist may play an important role in the infiltration and metastasis of bladder cancer. Key words: Bladder cancer; Twist; Metastasis
