Abstract

AbstractIt was found that rapid premixing of poly(vinyl acetate) and NaOH during the catalytic methanolysis leads to vinyl acetate — vinyl alcohol copolymers, which show a more intense colouration with iodine than comparable samples without premixing. Using the criterion of the minimum sequence length for the colour reaction, a model of the sequence distribution is presented, which fits both the thermal and colourimetric observations.
