Abstract

Objective To assess the relationship between poststroke depression (PSD) and the volume and location of cerebral infarction, and analyze the relevant risk factors of PSD. Methods A total of 286 cases of ischemic stroke were selected. According to whether the patients were complicated by depression, the patients were divided into non-depression group (n=170) and depression group (n=116). The patients underwent head MRI within 2 weeks of stroke onset. The location of stroke and the infarcted volume were compared between the two groups; and the relationships between the variables and PSD were evaluated by Pearson analysis; and the risk factors of PSD were evaluated by Logistic regression analysis. Results The proportion of frontal lobe stroke, temporal lobe stroke and single lesion stroke in depression group was significantly higher than that in non-depression group (P<0.05). The proportion of left frontal lobe stroke and left temporal lobe stroke in the depression group was significantly higher than that in the non-depression group (P<0.05). The volume and number of focus of infarct in the depression group was significantly higher than that in the non-depression group (P<0.05). The volume and number of focus of infarct were positively correlated with the HAMD score and they were the risk factors for PSD in patients with acute cerebral stroke. Conclusions The infarct volume, location and number are closely correlated with acute ceretral stroke, which are the independent risk factors for PSD.
