Abstract
In rainbow trout two metallothionein genes have been identified. The proximal promoter sequences have previously been sequenced and two metal responsive elements (MREs) have been identified in both genes (Zafarullah et al., 1988; Murphy et al., 1990). In the present study the distal part of the MT-A gene promoter region was sequenced in order to identify additional regulatory elements. Data is now presented demonstrating the presence of additional MREs in the MT-A gene as well as sequences with high similarity to AP1 consensus sequences.
