Abstract
1. 1. Trehalose dynamics were studied in haemolymph and flight muscles of flying locusts, after pulse labelling of the haemolymph pool with [U- 14C]-trehalose. 2. 2. A mathematical model was developed to enable the calculation of rate-determining constants of trehalose utilization and the time of flight needed to reach a steady-state condition of trehalose utilization. 3. 3. The results indicate that an active down regulation of trehalose utilization during flight is effected both at the sarcolemma and intracellularly in the flight muscles.
