Abstract
O objetivo é relacionar os debates legislativos e jurídicos para promulgação da Lei Hipotecária número 1.237 de 1864 à construção do Estado Nacional no Segundo Reinado e à institucionalização da ordem jurídica liberal. Serão consideradas as disputas relacionadas à criação do registro das alienações de imóveis e de hipotecas.
