Abstract

In 1988, the Dutch government published its Fourth Memorandum on Physical Planning (Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning and Environment 1988). This report sketches a broad perspective for urban and rural development in the Netherlands up to the year 2015. The Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning and the Environment is currently working out the details. In doing so, they wish to use the Geographic Information System (GIS) ARC/INFO to translate general policy statements into concrete location decisions. The GIS research group at the University of Utrecht was asked to develop and execute a method to support location decisions with the help of geographic information systems.KeywordsGeographic Information SystemNature AreaRegional PlanningUrban AgglomerationPhysical PlanningThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
