Abstract

Producer services have attracted the attention of scholars interested in regional development because they can be traded in a manner similar to goods, thereby contributing to the economic base of regions and nations. The development of information technologies has facilitated growth in trade in producer services, yet face‐to‐face communications still plays a major role in the production and delivery of these services. There is evidence that the share of purchases used economy‐wide has come to a growing extent from producer services, also implying growth in trade or exports of these services from regional and national economies.
