Abstract

As a result of work carried out by institutes and enterprises in the refractories and metallurgical industry of the USSR, various types of refractories have been developed for continuous steel casting plant that is widely used in production conditions. The speeding up of the work of continuous casting plant, the extension of the range of steels being cast, and the development of continuous casting plant of various designs all require decisions to be made in the field of refractory materials. It is necessary to continue research into the mechanism responsible for the formation of the contact layer between the steel and the refractory, the way in which it reacts, and the movement in various boundary conditions; it will also be necessary to develop further scientific experimental theories for the contact layer, and through the accumulation of the necessary data to approach the problems of constructing a mathematical model for the process.
