Abstract

Interdisciplinarity issues are not new in the field of education but they are given now an increasing importance, which reflects both in research interests and curricular decisions. In this text, I would like to use my personal experience of interdisciplinarity for approaching some of its dimensions and affordances in mathematics education, from its contribution to theoretical reflection to its role in teacher education. In doing so, I will refer to and comment upon some of the areas addressed by Gabriele Kaiser over her long productive career, and especially her research on mathematical modeling and teacher education.
