Reference and intensions

Abstract

Abstract The use of intensional objects as the things to which expressions refer has not been sufficiently explored or developed. Such referents are considered in the cases of definite descriptions of the referential and attributive kinds, and of proper names. The method is exploited to handle the representational and inferential problem of such expressions in the semantic network processing system. The features required to handle it are proposed and satisfied. Testing of results is considered and consequences of the theory are examined.
