Abstract
AbstractThe reductions of nitrite and nitric oxide (NO) on platinum single crystal electrode were investigated by voltammetric method in alkaline solution. The reductions are very much structure sensitive and proceed exclusively in a potential region of 0.3‐0.5 V (RHE) at pH > 8. Spectrochemical analysis of the electrolyte shows the formation of ammonia with an efficiency of more than 80%. Thus, the overall reaction is concluded as: NO + 5H2O + 6 → NH3 + 7OH−. The present results are discussed in comparsion with other electrochemical results reported.
