Abstract

In this paper, the effect of FeSO4.7H2O and SnCl2.2H2O on Cr(VI) reduction is compared by measuring Cr(VI) content before and after adding of reducing additives in cement samples. The determination of water soluble Cr (VI) from cement samples was precisely conducted by in-house developed method. Also compared the effect of additive’s form (crystalline and powder). The qualitative information regarding reduction of water soluble Cr(VI) in hydrated cement paste and extracted solution was monitored by FTIR and UV-Visible Spectra. It was evidenced that the utmost reduction was found in hydrated cement with SnCl2.2H2O.
