Abstract
The present paper describes the main measures adopted to improve the surface quality of hot dip galvanized (HDG) steels on llva galvanizing lines (Sendzimir type, horizontal furnaces).Improvements of coating adhesion and elimination of bare spots are achieved by the control of strip contamination, its temperature furnace atmosphere, zinc bath composition. Ripple and drop-mark defects are avoided by optimization of line speed, wiping pressure and distance, base steel roughness and zinc coating weight.Further improvements are expected.
