Abstract
Mutual Coupling (MC) is an undesired phenomenon which degrades antenna performance like antenna gain, radiation pattern, antenna efficiency etc. Many works have been done in recent few years on the reduction of MC. In recent years, Defected Ground Structure (DGS) and Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) have been used to reduce the effect of MC in spite of their few disadvantages. In this article, we have proposed simple I-shaped resonators of length 20.875mm (0.3λ) each in between two closely spaced rectangular microstrip antenna elements to reduce the MC between them. In this design, MC is reduced by 34dB at the resonant frequency of 4.36GHz. This antenna can be used in many wireless applications specially MIMO system and satellite communications.
