Abstract
This Iron ores are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted with some others minerals. The iron ores are usually rich in iron oxide. The iron itself is usually found in the form of magnetite, hematite, goethite, limonite, or siderite. One way for reduction of iron ore is direct reduction method using solid reductor such as coke and palm kernel shell charcoal. Indonesia is one of country with high reserve of coal, it’s about 38,8 billions tons. The purposes of this research are to find out the optimum time needed in the reduction of iron ore using coke and palm kernel shell charcoal. We’re using residence time variation from 1 minute to 120 minutes. The result shows there are some residence time that will give higher conversion of Fe. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of time on the reduction of iron ore. The experimental results show that at certain times optimum results will be obtained where the Fe content is greater than other time variations. The results showed that Fe content with the highest yield was obtained at 120 minutes, using either coking coal or CKS charcoal reductor.
