Abstract

The abilities to scavenge free radicals(FRs) from cigarette smoke by Pinus Yunnansis Franch extract(PYFE) and grape seed extract(GSE) were tested with ESR.The results showed that it was more effective to introduce PYFE into cigarette filter than into cut filler or introduce GSE of the same volume into the filter for the purpose of scavenging FRs from cigarette smoke.Comparing with the control, the gas phase, particle phase and total FRs in smoke of cigarette with filter added with 50μL alcohol solution containing 0.2% PYFE decreased by 64.1%,43.9% and 60.0%,respectively;while total FRs in smoke of cigarette with cut tobacco containing the same amount of PYFE and cigarette with filter added with the same amount of GSE reduced by 52.7% and 25.9%,respectively.It indicated that PYFE could be used to eliminate free radicals from cigarette smoke.
