Abstract

In order to reduce the harm of free radicals in cigarette smoke to human health,the effects of Herba ardisiae Japonicae,Dendranthema indicum,and grape seed extracts application were experimented.The results showed that comparing with the control,the gas phase free radicals in the smoke of cigarettes containing Herba ardisiae Japonica extract,grape seed extract and Dendranthema indicum extract at the rate of 5-10 mg/kg decreased by 16.31% to 19.73%,20.19% to 23.73% and 11.56% to 14.85%,respectively.While the gas phase free radicals in the smoke of cigarettes containing 10 mg/kg of the mixture of the three extracts (w∶w∶w=1∶1∶1) reduced by 32.87%,meanwhile the tar and carbonyl compounds in cigarette smoke did not increased,and the cigarettes offered balanced aroma and good smoking quality.
