Abstract

In this study, the electrocoagulation (EC) process has been used for the eliminations of the chlorophenol compounds from the pulp and paper industry (PPI) wastewater. Two different metals electrodes (SS-304 and SS-316) have been used during the treatment process. All the experiments were carried out under ideal treatment conditions at pH=7, time =40 min and dose of electrolyte =1.0 gm/l and current density 24.8 mA/cm2 and 25.6 mA/cm2 in case of SS-304 and SS-316 electrodes respectively. The overall removal of chlorophenols is quite high in the case of SS-304 (79.5) electrodes in comparison to SS-316 (78.5). However, the reduction of total organic carbon (TOC) was also observed in the same manner with both metal electrodes. This study explores that the EC process is promising by the use of SS-304 and SS- 316 for the elimination of chlorophenols from PPI wastewater.
