Abstract
REDUCTION OF BARLEY YELLOW DWARF VIRUS VECTORED BY APHIDS IN WINTER WHEAT, 1998: Plots were seeded by large plot drill on 23 Sep, 1997 in a RCBD with four replicates per treatment at the USDA-ARS Western Regional Plant Materials Introduction Center at Central Ferry, WA. Replicates were 45 x 350 ft. Gaucho 480 was applied at 3 rates as a seed treatment insecticide at 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 oz product cwt. An untreated check was established at seeding. Counts of BCOA were made on day of emergence (0-DAE), 7-DAE, 15-DAE, 22DAE, and 30-DAE. BCOA is a principal vector of barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) in fall seeded cereals. The trial was rated for BYDV at 100-DAE in Jan of 1998, using a scale of 0 to 6, where 6 = 100% of plants expressing symptoms of BYDV. Yield data were collected at harvest in Jul.
