Abstract

Redox stability of anodes is one of the important challenges in SOFC design. It is well known that co-sintered Ni-YSZ cermets usually used as anodes in SOFCs degrade rapidly during redox cycling. A possible solution of this problem is the utilization of infiltration technique for the processing of Ni-YSZ cermet, which showed promising results towards development of redox stable anodes. Pre-sintered porous YSZ layers were first infiltrated with YSZ polymeric precursor followed by infiltration of a NiO polymeric precursor. This unique double infiltration process practically eliminated the degradation of Ni-YSZ cermet during redox cycling at temperatures as high as 800oC.
