Abstract

ln 1971, a Greek rock band recorded in English their own version of John’s Book of Revelation, the innovative and demanding 666. It is by far one of the most faithful artistic renditions of the Book, though the band did not resort to obvious mimetic devices. This article explores the reasons that led popular artists to work on a cryptic, archaic, religious text, and examines the deeper connections between The Book of Revelation, 666 and our post-modern society through the prism of the sacrificial principle.
